04-29-2010 - Jobs

Download (Right-click + Save Link As): 1:57:42 - 56mb

This week's show was all about JOBS. I kicked things off with Messages for the Prime Minister (Stephen Harper), and then explained How To become wealthy and rich beyond your wildest dreams (it involves murder, theft and rape, oh my).

In the Moon Down Mailbag, Ephram asked "Have you ever had any bad work experiences?" and I explained my difficulties in being commander of a platoon of Monkey Space Cadets. In this week's Career Crunch I looked at some numbers from StatsCanada.
Also featured was another brand new segment, 'What's in the trash can, garbageman?' The big find of the night was:

A genuine plastic thumbtack...

Taylor the Tool Expert focused his attention on Jackhammers and I wrapped up the show by playing a Dictation Disc 7".

This week's show was all about DRUGS. On 4/20, I trekked out to Major's Hill Park in Ottawa to ask people about marijuana laws, Stephen Harper, mushrooms, troubles with the 5-0 and the Woodstock-like gathering. I ended up playing a couple songs by Max & Erin recorded during the festivities.

In the Moon Down Mailbag, Jacqueline S. asked me "Do you do drugs?" and Moogie Magoo said "I think your little sister's diaries are boring."

In the news:
The Gangster Word of the Week was crank which led me to discuss a new aphrodisiac by the name of Crocodile Thigh. During Taylor's Tool Time, Tool Expert Taylor looked at chainsaws.

04-15-2010 - Inside a Computer

Download (Right-click + Save Link As): 1:52:10 - 58mb

Thanks to Ms. Frizzle and the Magic School Bus, this episode was broadcast live from the inside of a desktop computer. I was shrunk down to the size of a microbe in order to fit inside. True story.

Tunes were played off the CD-ROM player, which led me to explain How To Computers Work (including RAM, CPU, Hard Drives, and Firewalls). I tried to log on to the internet using a 56k modem even though Super Dave Osborne told me "the internet can be phenomenal, and it can also be so dangerous". I also found time to discuss the first email ever sent in Canada, and the first singing computer.

In the news:
After the news, I opened up the Moon Down Mailbag. Again, only one email was sent in, this one from C64 in Vanier, asking "Are you keeping up with the Commodore?" which led me to create a new jingle for the Apple iPad. Shortly thereafter, I was attacked by TRIANGLE FACE but fortunately Norton Antivirus defended me. This week's Crazy Crazy Craigslist led me to discuss Carleton University's Fruit Machine that was built to detect homosexuals.

Mitchell phoned in to the show to call me a fraud, and to profess his love of Will.

At the tail end of the show, I ran about 15 minutes of my little sister's diaries while trying to make my way out of the computer. I used Taylor's Tool Time handy tips on wire cutters and broke free for the end of the show.

04-08-2010 - Todd Van Allen

Download (Right-click + Save Link As): 2:04:12 - 58mb

For the first time in forever, I had a guest in studio! Toronto-comic Todd Van Allen was in studio promoting his appearances at Absolute Comedy for the week.

We kicked things off with a little Thunder Round, and then it was on to our How-To segment, in which TVA told us How To You Become a Stand-up Comic. We discussed first names, stupid baby names, and Todd set out a challenge to our listeners/viewers to figure out his real first name...it starts with a D. Is it Dylan? Don? Dweezil? Listen and find out if anybody was able to crack this age-old mystery.

In the news:
After the news, I opened up the Moon Down Mailbag, and at the tail end of the show, I unveiled Taylor's Tool Time, a totally original idea based on an original concept of mine which is totally not a rip-off of a lame 90's sitcom. Taylor talked about the usefulness of hammers. Taylor then called in to guess TVA's real first name, as did some other callers.

Then it was time for an April 8th version of the Daily Feud. TVA also took a moment to recant a tale from the road in our rarely heard segment, Sad Standup Story.

Talking Pictures

For the last few weeks I've been simulcasting the show on stickam.com/moondownradio

What that means is that if you're tired of hearing the show on the FM dial (93.1 in Ottawa), and if you don't listen to the show on the web (ckcufm.com), you can now view the show on your computer. Just log on to stickam.com/moondownradio on Wednesday nights @ 12 EST. You don't have to sign up for anything and you can automatically enter the chat room, ask questions, view the show and the occasional guest or two. Here's a clip from a couple weeks ago:

Add the show as a friend, post comments, join the community!

Every month or so, I'll compile a 'Best Of' show and upload it to this channel and youtube.

04-01-2010 - Questions?

Download (Right-click + Save Link As): 1:57:21 - 60mb

Tonight's topic was Questions?

Questions included: What is the meaning of life? What happens when we die? Where's Waldo? and Who let the clowns out?

Off the top of the show I talked about the history of April Fool's Day (or as pea-soup eaters would say, Poisson D'Avril) and sticking paper fishes on people's backs. I revealed the Fop Five Worst Questions to Ask on a First Date and that "wonder_____" was the Gangster Word of the Week. I opened the Moon Down Mailbag and Sports Watercooler Talk made it's un-triumphant return to terrestrial radio, as did Rob 'n' Cole's Prank Phone Calls. I also checked out some questions on the Craigslist forum.
